Education Program

Course of Study

Picture
The Community of Saint George is committed to educating deacon and priest celebrants to publicly represent our Community and The Young Rite by providing the sacraments and ministry (preaching, pastoral care, etc...) to the communities in which they reside.  Upon petitioning to join the Community of Saint George a candidate will enter a formation period that usually lasts a year.  Upon completion of the formation program the novice then enters a course of study for the diaconate which lasts a year, culminating in ordination as a Deacon (Celebrant).  There is additional course of study for the priesthood lasting a year along with additional educational opportunities post-priesthood ordination (to be eligible for consecration as a bishop if a need for another bishop became available).

Formation Program (Required to become a full member of the Community of Saint George)
Diaconate Training (Required for Ordination as a Deacon)
Priesthood Training (1st Year - Required for Ordination as a Priest)
Priesthood Training (2nd Year - Post-Priesthood Ordination Training, Optional)
Priesthood Training (3rd Year - Post-Priesthood Ordination Training, Optional)

The program consists of several one-month modules which include readings of select books with assigned reflection papers for each reading.  In addition to the the assigned reading and writing the student will meet (usually via phone or Skype) with a mentor to discuss the material.  Demonstration of understanding is necessary to move onto the next module.

Included in the training, but separate from the listed modules, are practicum sessions with one's mentor based on the needs of the student along with face-to-face intensives, also based on the needs of the student.
